If Facebook is a privately owned oceanarium then user uploaded information are it's aquatic denizens. Imagine a tropical climate sort of theme or setting since we can post almost just about anything there. A tasteless selfie beside a politically charged meme, photo albums of someone's birthday, marriage or funeral on top of a self-centered random existential rant, the latest dismal news together with the spiciest relationship status updates all flooded by an infinitesimal rainfall of likes. It is a site used by around 30 million people just on this country alone[1] where, topics, opinions and even bullshit can be diverse as they are diffused but nevertheless always with the chance of becoming viral (or fungal).

For the 'na-[2] dyaryo' project, WALA paid the required entrance fee [i.e. internet access] and swam there for hours stalking user profiles and pages for images, articles, comment thread-battlegrounds and even status updates. A (re)search and select operation was conducted to pinpoint posts that tend to represent, talk about, reflect on or be critical towards certain (inherently political) issues and concerns. We are mostly interested with the ones we don't get to know about or has a different version on a TV news program or a daily periodical. Public information that are at odds with the ones delivered by outlets owned by some private multimillion media corporation obsessed with its own set of self-interests [e.g. maintaining profit yields]. The publishers of these selected posts were invited to participate in a collaborative piece together with the group by granting us the permission to re-publish their work/material on another platform.

WALA company would like to think that putting these sporadic pieces of significant and relevant information together in a compact zine form could draw a cognitive map connecting the different approaches, insights and initiatives that point towards genuine resistance and change. One that could potentially be helpful in trying to comprehend-traverse the complex terrain of our late-capitalist medieval society and culture. Disclaimer: WALA couldn't claim that this is anywhere near a comprehensive, systematic and unbiased survey/analysis of what is going on around. Well, not as much as the claim that dominant media corporations assiduously insist to be their top defining factor, [end of disclaimer]. It is more of an exercise on a collective construction of a world-image/view of universal human struggles and circumstances – as they happen within our context – that is unmediated by the interests of an affluent, private few.

Butt w8 dHerz mh0re! Given that any attempts at creating a picture will never seem to be entirely complete or accurate, it will constantly be in the process of editing, enhancing and updating. Hence, we conceive the output created by this project not as a conclusive end product but as a starting point in the development and exchange of ideas and discourse between different parties. Here's hoping that the effort leads to the formation of new networks and establishing of solidarity.
