Kite making Workshop

28 February 2015

Craft Workshop

13 March 2015

Craft Workshop is a program in WALA's HQ that demonstrated handicraft works using paper materials. The children were initially taught to form beads made from the various recycled papers provided (old magazines, used paper notes, fliers, and color papers) to create bracelets and necklaces. They were then encouraged to make their own design of accessories/trinkets based on the prior lesson. The objective of this project was to suggest an example on repurposing materials from limited resources that can also be a source of livelihood.

Painting Workshop

15 March 2015

A one day painting activity workshop held at the former WALA HQ in UP MRF. The children were taught the basics in acrylic painting and color mixing using only primary colors, black and white. They painted on small canvases with pre-drawn images upon which they filled with the colors of their own preference. After this activity is the second part of the workshop which is a free for all, all-out, open-themed wall painting party mayhem where the kids filled the pad paper-like walls of the headquarters with their own texts and images using what they learned previously.

Skul of Barawk

28 March 2015

Is part of a series of skill and knowledge sharing workshops of WALA. In this program, the children were briefly introduced to the practical and the nitty-gritty of playing instruments generally attributed to the Rock genre. It has an informal DIY and straight forward setup (an amp was provided each for an electric guitar & a bass guitar, drums consists of: a snare, a hi-hat, a “kahon” for kick drum, and a pair of chopsticks as an alternative for hitting it). Kids are then encouraged to ask questions about their chosen instrument (be familiar with the mechanics of it) and be adventurous with their approach in sound making. The activity concluded in the spirit of DIWO (Do It with Others) where an improvisational jam session was held inside the WALA HQ
