WALA HQ

WALA Mobile® version 1.0 is a moving, collapsible structure that is expressly designed and constructed by the members of WALA. It serves the company as its main curatorial platform component appliance. It is a sculpture as it is a gallery space, a piece of furniture and also a happening/event. It is our attempt to concieve a movable, portable and flexible space for exhibiting art objects with the everyday flaneurs as our primary target audience. It is inspired by the Mabini painting peddlers and the ingenious myriad designs of movable stores by independent business men and women roaming all around our labyrinthine urban networks. It is also great for party-crashing to other people's event.

WALA Art Peryahan

A traveling, outdoor mini art fair that is open to the public. Peryahan are those itinerant fairgrounds that occasionally spring up on vacant lots in one's local town especially during its feast day.  WALA is interested in their fleeting and multifaceted character: sites that exist as transitory events built upon juxtaposed layers of colors, light, images, interactions and meanings; where one temporarily breaks away from the normal passing of time into its seeming suspension inside. The mode through which the work, as a whole, would reach out to its audiences is in reference to these spaces of festivity. For this project, we are launched two of our new WALA Mobiles® design prototypes:

Mobile Shooting Range (MSG)

Mobile Shooting Gallery invites the audience to a game that challenges their ability in aiming accurately at the right targets. Players should hit the images of the big names involved with the illegal drug business at designated target points to win. They lose if they hit the images representing the people from the bottom-end of the trade and innocent civilians. The winning participants gets to choose one among the artworks exhibited on the walls of the mobile as their prize. The activity focuses on the ongoing campaign against illegal drugs and the extra-judicial killings related to it. In a symbolic gesture of reversing of who gets to be killed without due process – the top perpetrators instead of the small timers – it addresses the notion of an individual's basic rights and its relationship to his/her economic standing.

Flux Utility Cart (FUC)

The Flux Utility Cart is a mobile platform concerned with sharing technological developments that can eventually be reproduced, shared, and utilized by a wider public. Its physical structure is primarily composed of salvaged raw and ready-made materials, re-purposed electronic components and devices mounted on a stroller. FUC is a critique on the widespread technology privatization/proprietorship. It attempts to promote DIY (Do-It-Yourself) ethics through (re)building or “hacking” existing technologies. It aims to break technological intimidation by presenting approachable concepts and know-how’s through simple instructions and demos.

SLAVERLANDS: Saging Lang Ang May Puso

SLAVERLANDS is one of the ventures of the collective in creating an exhibition using the internet. The concept of the show is to expose the connections of the art market systems and the exploitative practices done by food corporations. By using subversionary strategies and the accessibility of the online platform, W.A.L.A. aims to spread the information about this malpractices done towards farm laborers.
