Pakbet: WALA Zine # 1

This zine is an experiment of introducing chance and spontaneous movement to a machine that has a repetition and reproducibility as its forte, namely the ‘’seroks’’ machine. With the theme of PINAKBET, we collected a loose but fixed set of images contributed by members of what they think is related to the concept of pinakbet. These images are then constantly being jumbled, reused, sprinkled upon, and wiped across the scanning board of the machine. Each copy is a variation of certain spreadsheet templates making each unique work and still related to a series. Much like how an individual is related to its species.

Cramorama Zine Catalogue

This Pillbox Press release in cooperation with RATBU documents WALA’s Cramorama event and Petri Dish division launch.  It features video stills and text files from the guest participants as primary material. It was then altered using digital manipulation techniques and programs such FlexHex (Hex editor), Audacity, MS Paint and Adobe Photoshop to achieve a glitched effect. The same zine in physical form was also made available during the event.

Puro Damo Wala Namang Kabayo

This is the educational companion pamphlet distributed among visitors and participants during the annual exhibition 420 for its 2015 run.  It is an illustrated short primer about that great plant many people love but unreasonably criminalized by authorities. Topics include its proper cultivation, useful applications and some reasons why it's not really bad to smoke it at all  just illegal.

Kalihim

IBON Facts & Figures

na- Dyaryo

For the 'na-[2] dyaryo' project, WALA paid the required entrance fee [i.e. internet access] and swam Facebook for hours stalking user profiles and pages for images, articles, comment thread-battlegrounds and even status updates. A (re)search and select operation was conducted to pinpoint posts that tend to represent, talk about, reflect on or be critical towards certain (inherently political) issues and concerns. We are mostly interested with the ones we don't get to know about or has a different version on a TV news program or a daily periodical. Public information that are at odds with the ones delivered by outlets owned by some private multimillion media corporation obsessed with its own set of self-interests [e.g. maintaining profit yields]. The publishers of these selected posts were invited to participate in a collaborative piece together with the group by granting us the permission to re-publish their work/material on another platform.
